Nestled in the heart of North York in Toronto, Village Loft is not just a venue; it’s a canvas waiting to be painted with any artistic vision. Imagine high ceilings, brick walls, exposed wooden beams, and an abundance of natural light. It’s truly a love at first sight type of venue!

Not only is Village Loft beautiful, it’s versatile too! For couples having an intimate wedding, booking one of their three rooms will accommodate receptions with a capacity of 75 or 100 guests. Or if you’re having a much grander celebration, you can buy out the whole venue for a total of 275 guests.

From The Fix Up To Wedding Morning Rituals

Christina and Andrew’s journey to “I do” started through a serendipitous introduction by a mutual friend. Fast forward past the first dates, shared dreams and sunset proposal outside the gorgeous R.C. Harris Water Treatment Plant, and it was time to plan the big day to start a new chapter in their lives.

The day kicked off with a classic moment of camaraderie for Andrew – a shot of liquor with his closest friends, brother, and father. After some fun poses, group shots and assistance with bow-ties and jackets, it was time to jump into the rest of the day’s big timeline.

Meanwhile, Christina’s enjoyed her own classic moment – a breath-taking entrance down the stairs in her childhood home. Surrounded by all her closest loved ones, the wedding gown reveal was received with overwhelming praise. After capturing her many emotion-filled interactions with family, I knew I was in for a full day of heart-felt candid moments.

First Look & More Family Time

Before the vows could take place, we whisked away to Hunter’s Point Wildlife Park for the first look. Andrew’s reaction to his first sight of Christina was nothing short of wonderful shock before continuing with a private photo session. Here they could share some final moments of serenity and anticipation before the whirlwind about to take place.

Finally, the moment everyone had been waiting for arrived – the ceremony at Village Loft. Imagine a red brick clad space bathed in natural light and packed with your nearest and dearest. After the head-turning entrances, a friend’s voice filled the room with warmth and reverence through a cherished Bible verse. The rest of the ceremony was short and sweet – better to leave more time to all the fun, right?

Speaking of fun, it was time to open the bar and mingle as cocktail hour was here! The mid-summer’s sun provided a nice warm glow to all the guests as drinks were poured and stories exchanged on the loft’s wrap-around terrace. It was a scene of countless warm moments and laughter, proving to be a preview of all the joy still to come.

A Night of Twirls, Toasts, and Traditions

From the grand entrances welcomed by deafening cheers to a first dance that was a flurry of twirls, the vibe of the reception was through the roof from the get-go. After the wall-to-wall ovation died down, it was time for speeches. I’ve honestly never heard a better collection of heartfelt and hilarious stories, captivating the entire room. To everyone including staff working the event, it was crystal clear that Christina and Andrew were absolutely perfect for each other.

And the food – oh, the food! Boiled Cod or Grilled Coulotte Steak, topped off with a Niagara Peach Tart, because who says you need a wedding cake to make a statement? Although, I could never doubt the food selection for a second, as Andrew makes a living as a chef and wouldn’t settle for anything less than exquisite tonight.

Time To Cut A Rug

But the highlight of the night? Macedonian traditions like the Hora/Ora dance, which brought everyone to their feet to dance in a circle while linking arms. Then the Breaking of the Bread ceremony, where Christina emerged victorious after scoring the biggest piece. With that, she won the title of ‘head of the household’ or ‘bread winner’, which seems more appropriate.

All that energy was held high the rest of the night with some of the most enthusiastic dancing I’ve seen! It was a fusion of cultures, a celebration of love, and a testament to the couple’s roots that made this wedding so special. Even after my coverage time finished, I couldn’t help but stay an extra hour to bust some moves on that lit dance floor.

Today, I’m excited to take you to Maxwell and Madeline’s wedding, a day filled with love, laughter, and the unique charm of Toronto’s Burroughes Building. This iconic venue, nestled in the heart of the Queen St. West, served as the perfect space for their big day shared with family and friends. Let’s get to it!

Century Old History

Erected in 1907, The Burroughes Building has evolved from the flagship department store for the F.C. Burroughes Furniture Company to one of Toronto’s most desirable event spaces. The charm lies in its character features including restored elevators, wooden floors, exposed brick, and 8 foot windows windows. Together they create the perfect fusion of past and present. Burroughes stands as a testament to Toronto’s turn of the century, offering a unique personality that makes every event rich with history.

Rooftop Romance

The day began on the rooftop patio, where the sprawling downtown skyline offered the perfect urban backdrop. This moment was not just about capturing photos, it was about encapsulating the essence of Maxwell and Madeline against Toronto’s tallest skyscrapers. Urban landscape aside, the intimate moments shared by the couple, parents and wedding party set the tone for the rest of the day.

Down to the 6^th Floor

Imagine tables elegantly dressed in pampas grass, dried marigolds and white roses, creating a rustic atmosphere. The bridesmaids, armed with eucalyptus and baby’s breath bouquets, mirrored the stunning altar with the same features. The fairy tale scene for the faux-ceremony about to take place was set.

As guests started to fill the venue, the air buzzed with warm exchanges and the soft sounds of instant cameras capturing memories for the treasured guest book. As the connections deepened, the anticipation built for a ceremony that promised to be as emotional as it was joyful.

Ceremony & Celebrations

The ceremony, held in the 1910 addition next to a brick wall sporting an original F.C. Burroughes mural, was a blend of modern sentiment and traditional vows. Guided by a close friend, the tears shared by the bride, groom and loved ones made for a very touching and personal display of love.

After the ceremony, the cocktail hour introduced guests to a world of exquisite flavors. From organic salmon sashimi and BBQ pork bao to tomato tarte and smashed burgers, everyone was able to get a sampling of kitchen’s magic before dinner.

Then, as everyone took their seats, heartfelt speeches moved the couple to tears a few more times. It was a evening of fine dining and emotional depth, marking the end of my time with them but just the beginning of their night to remember.

Today, I’m thrilled to whisk you away to the heart of Toronto for a peek into Alex and Lindsay’s wedding at Second Floor Events. If you’re searching for a venue that screams “I do” with historic elegance, buckle up because you’re about to be wooed.

A Guy Thing

Our day kicked off at Alex’s house in Etobicoke, where the atmosphere was charged with excitement, and a pint of manly flair. The groomsmen gifts? Beef jerky and an ax neatly tucked into an ammo can – talk about gearing up for a wedding!

Once suited and booted, the brigade made their way to West Deane Park for a photo shoot that was anything but ordinary. Imagine a shot framed to mimic a, well, let’s say a very “natural” moment on the grass. It’s creating fun moments like these that keep me excited about wedding photography year after year.

Nature’s Photo Studio

But let’s not let the guys steal all the limelight. Enter Lindsay, radiant and ready to stop hearts with her first look for Alex on a picturesque bridge. Then we ventured into a lush forestry area with their wedding party for more photos in the thick of wilderness. Sometimes the simplest locations are the most beautiful.

After a quick bride & groom session, it was time for Lindsay and her bridal squad to strike fun poses outside The Carpet Factory. Not only does this Liberty Village landmark offer an array of stunning backdrops; it’s a slice of Toronto’s history. Dating back to 1890, this office complex boasts red brick masonry and wrought-iron details with courtyards that scream elegance and character. You really couldn’t ask for a more beautiful industrial location that is essentially a ghost town on the weekends.

Off to Say I Do’

With the bridal session complete, it was onto another magnificent turn of the century space – Second Floor Events. Originally built for the Toronto Lithographing Company, this venue’s original hardwood floors and 8 foot windows offer a canvas for weddings that leave a vintage impression. Alex and Lindsay’s ceremony was short, sweet, and sprinkled with laughter, heartfelt vows, and a touching poem that had everyone in the room captivated.

As afternoon turned to evening, the ceremony space transformed into a reception haven where speeches and stories had everyone in stitches – especially Lindsay. The highlight? The live band Switchbeat taking the stage, turning the rest of the reception into a concert where every guest knew the lyrics. The parents dance to Rolling Stones “She’s A Rainbow” had me smiling from ear to ear too.

And as if this day couldn’t get any sweeter, our bride and groom are about to hop on a jet to Paris for their honeymoon. Talk about a perfect beginning to their forever after!

Are you dreaming of a magical winter wedding? Well, buckle up, because I’ve got a tale that’ll warm your hearts faster than a cup of hot cocoa! Before I go any further, I’m Kotsy, an enthusiastic Toronto wedding photographer with a keen eye for capturing the essence of couple’s special day. Today I’m sharing Justin and Roohi’s wedding journey – a perfect blend of modern romance and timeless elegance at Old Mill here in “The 6ix”.

Modern Love Story

Justin and Roohi’s story started like many others in the digital age, with a simple swipe right on Bumble.  It wasn’t long before they were onto their first date at High Park that lasted for hours. Fast forward to Albion Falls where Roohi was expecting lunch with Justin’s parents. Instead, she was surprised by a picnic and proposal by a waterfall – can you say romantic? I just knew their wedding would be nothing short of incredibly sweet after getting to spend time with them during their engagement session back at High Park.

Choosing the Old Mill: A Blend of History and Elegance

When it comes to picking a venue, Justin and Roohi wanted something that screamed history, charm, and elegance. And boy, did they hit the jackpot with Old Mill! This Toronto gem is not just a venue; it’s a century-old love letter to all things vintage and classy. With its Gothic-style architecture and stunning gardens, it’s a total paradise for couples and photographers like myself.

Imagine exchanging vows in a breathtaking chapel with stained glass windows casting a romantic glow over the ceremony. Or doing the married couple’s session in Old Mill’s stunning courtyard featuring stone buildings, a wooden bridge, lush gardens and serene water features. This is a scene that gets even more beautiful when you add on a fresh blanket of snow.

Finally, head inside to get lost in a labyrinth of long corridors and staircases, one of which provided the backdrop to Justin & Roohi’s favourite photo featuring the ol’ dip and kiss. The rooms themselves are filled with warm lighting by chandelier, large fireplaces, wall-to-wall hardwood floors and 13ft high ceilings. It doesn’t get more vintage than this!

Let’s Party!

The reception was a seamless mix of cozy winter vibes and heartwarming moments. After the energetic intros of the wedding party, Justin & Roohi strutted into the room to massive cheers before settling into the tender moment of their first dance to John Legend’s “All of Me”.

The room was then treated to heart felt speeches by the bride and groom’s family, best man, maid of honour and, of course, the bride and groom themselves. The countless touching stories not only had everyone’s full attention, but produce many heart-felt reactions.

And the food? Oh, the food! Their creamy pasta and tiramisu selections were a culinary cuddle, perfect for a winter’s eve. What about the cake? A divine dance of white chocolate and raspberry puree, with a side of chocolate truffle – because why choose one when you can have both?

Finally, what is a wedding without busting a move on the dancefloor? Justin and Roohi’s would prove no different with everybody going wild over old school tunes from the early 2000s. The amazing candid moments this created were seemingly endless!

Kotsy here, your go-to photographer and storyteller, ready to dish out the details of Holt and Erika’s fabulous summer wedding at the Royal Canadian Legion 344 in Toronto. Get ready for a tale of love, laughter, and a wedding that’s as unique as the couple themselves.

A Venue with History and Heart

Let’s talk venue! Nestled in the South Parkdale neighbourhood of Toronto, Royal Canadian Legion 344 isn’t just a building; it’s a piece of history with a heart of gold. This place has seen it all, from heartfelt reunions to joyous celebrations, making it the perfect setting for a wedding that’s both meaningful and merry.

Thanks to a rainy forecast that turned out to be all lies, the ceremony and reception unfolded on the venue’s spacious back patio. With the sun dipping behind the trees, Holt and Erika made their way down the aisle to their friends Clamaglamza performing “The Wind Loves the Rain”, written by a local favourite, Rattlesnake Choir.

Then, against the magnificent backdrop of Lake Ontario, it was time to exchange vows next to their faux-ficiant and close friend. To wrap the ceremony up, Erika broke glass with her foot – absolutely as satisfying as it looks and sounds! Once the sky melted into shades of orange and pinks, it was time for heartfelt speeches and delicious food. Can you get more romantic than a lakeside dinner bathed in the romantic hues of a stunning sunset? I think not!

From House Party to ‘I Do’

Let’s dive into Holt and Erika’s love story! The two lovebirds met at a friend’s house party, where Holt’s offer to help with an injury won Erika over with its sweet (and slightly nutty) charm. Fast forward to a Halloween show when Erika, dressed as Ketchup, realized she had a crush while they manned the door together. Hanging out with Holt over watching a band perform is all she needed to realize that he was something special to her.

It’s really no surprise that their engagement story is just as endearing. On a trip to New York for their 10th anniversary, Erika flipped the script and proposed to Holt in Washington Square Park. After muttering a half-apology, half-proposal under the massive arch, he finally clued in when he saw the ring. It was the quirky love tale that suited them perfectly!

A Day Filled with Music, Friends and Love

Holt and Erika’s wedding day was nothing short of magical. From the moment guests began arriving, it felt like a series of heartwarming reunions thanks to Covid lockdowns. Erika, breaking tradition again, was out there hugging everyone upon their arrival. Truly a testament to the couple’s warm and inviting personalities.

And, of course, music played a pivotal role in their celebration, with friends’ performing throughout the day and night. From walking down the aisle “The Wind Loves The Rain” and rocking out post-dinner to alternative 90s covers to a DJ and another musical performance to finish the night, every tune was throwback on their special day.

A Tiny Beach Getaway

Just a stone’s throw from the venue was a tiny beach. So tiny, in fact, that it doesn’t even have a name! This hidden gem is where the elated couple and their wedding party had a photo session. Picture this: the bride and groom, along with their closest friends, laughing and posing on the sandy shores, with the gentle lapping of the lake’s waves adding a rhythm to their joy. Then add in a sunset for when Erika and Holt returned for their couples session. We couldn’t have asked for a better location or finishing touches from mother nature.

Speaking of photos, what was their favourites? This didn’t require much thought. Erika’s parents kissing her at the end of the aisle, and them walking up the aisle after the ceremony, radiating happiness and relief, stood above all the other shots. These moments, captured forever, are a beautiful blend of love and joy.

DIY Decor and Personal Touches

Holt’s woodworking skills and Erika’s crafty nature shone through in their décor. Wooden signage and centerpiece boxes made by Holt, along with bouquets and boutonnieres put together by Erika added a personalized vibe to the venue for the right price. It was a testament to their creativity and teamwork.

And after going through it all together, they have a few simple pieces of advice for other couples planning their wedding. Don’t sweat the small stuff or get caught up in others’ expectations. Focus on what matters to you, and remember, it might cost a bit (or a lot) more than planned, but it’s all worth it in the end!

Kotsy here, your go-to guy for capturing those ‘I do’ moments with a splash of colour and a dash of fun. Today, I’m here to share the story of Leilani and Benson, a couple who turned The Vue Event Venue in Toronto into their own little double happiness paradise. So, let’s dive into this tale of love, laughter, and a little bit of DIY magic!

Love at First Click

Leilani and Benson’s love story is a digital-age romance that started on Facebook in 2010, but it was their first real-life meet-up during March Break where it all clicked – and I mean, really clicked. They chatted about everything under the sun without a care for time. Isn’t that just the way love rolls?

Fast forward to London, England. Picture this: our lovebirds wandering around Buckingham Palace, soaking in history at the War Museum, and enjoying a stroll in St. James Park. Then, in the privacy of their hotel room, Leilani turns around to Benson dropped down to one knee, ring in hand. It was intimate, it was perfect, and it was so them.

Why The Vue?

When their original venue plans got pandemic-pivoted, Leilani and Benson stumbled upon The Vue. And guess what? It was love at first sight! They wanted a place they could call their own, and The Vue, with its stunning views and versatile spaces, was just the ticket. More about this beautiful spot later.

A DIY Dream Come True

Leilani, a DIY enthusiast, and Benson, the easy-going half of the duo, chose rich, dark colours and textures for their day. We’re talking burgundy and navy velvets – a total vibe for a summer wedding!

When asked about their favorite moments – it had to be seeing their hoodie-loving work friends all dolled up and reuniting with family from Chicago and Montreal. They also remember being a bundle of nerves during their first look, with Benson’s slight quiver being an obvious giveaway to Leilani. And their first dance? Pure magic, thanks to those dance classes!

Speaking of the first dance, they landed on Meghan Trainor feat. John Legend “Like I’m Gonna Lose You“ when picking out that special song. A cheerful, upbeat choice for a couple that embodies those very traits. However, this wasn’t their first choice! It was a compromise after deciding Unchained Melody, the first song they ever danced to, was a little too slow.

Cultural Touches and Crocheted Boutonnières

Leilani and Benson added some unique flair with Filipino traditions like the money dance, and during the ceremony, incorporated a cord (to signify a couple’s bond), veil (for protection), and 13 different coins (to show the promise of prosperity). Keeping up with the DIY theme, most of the bouquet and each boutonnière were crocheted! I’m still in awe by the distinctive charm they brought to the wedding!

Next, there was the flower selections, with daffodils, lily of the valleys, anemones and roses being selected to represent each of their fathers, as well as Leilani’s aunt and grandma. Finally, double happiness symbols were placed everywhere they possible could in the venue to pay homage to Chinese traditions.

Planning Through a Pandemic

Navigating wedding planning during a pandemic was no small feat, but Leilani and Benson did it with grace and a sense of humor. Their advice? Have fun, think of your guests, and the wedding won’t ever have a dull moment. All the fun was made easier by their MC, Ivan, who came prepared with a kissing wheel and photo scavenger hunt game that provided a seemingly endless supply of guest engagement over dinner.

One final tip from the couple that may seem obvious, but easily forgotten during the go-go-go nature of the day — don’t forget to eat! Have some lunch before the ceremony and snacks afterward to hold you over until dinner. More on that and other tips can be found here. And speaking of eating, the big question is: which direction did they go for the wedding cake? A vanilla raspberry delight that wasn’t too sweet – I may or may not have snagged a slice. Spoiler: I absolutely did.

And after the wedding has moved inside, you can still enjoy the expansive surrounding greenery through it’s gigantic windows. It’s like Mother Nature herself RSVPed to your wedding!

Deciding to skip the antiquated idea of a proposal, they leapt straight into a more relaxed approach of planning their big day. If your wedding vibes are all about blending natural elegance with heartfelt warmth, buckle up!

Edwards Gardens: Where Love Blooms

First stop, Edwards Gardens! Roy and Laura, a duo that turned their work friendship into a beautiful love story, chose this spot for its lush vistas. And boy, did it deliver! Imagine saying your vows under a towering tree, surrounded by sprawling greens with the soft whisper of the wind as your ceremony soundtrack. That’s exactly what they did. Even the on-again-off-again light rain didn’t stand a chance at dampening this afternoon’s celebration.

Laura’s walk down the aisle with her parents while a two piece musical ensemble performed was one of her fondest memories of the day. And the vows they penned for each other? Both of them couldn’t help but tear up while the other delivered them in front of their closest friends and family.

After the ring exchange and legal signings, the rain brilliantly came to a stop as “Here Comes The Sun” by The Beatles began for their exit. You can’t make this stuff up! Capturing these moments against the lush backdrop of Edwards Gardens was a photographer’s paradise as much as it was for a bride and groom.

After the “I do’s”, it was time for a superbly fun photoshoot amongst the Wilket Creek and waterfall, beautiful stone pathways and a wooden bridge that was clearly built with photography in mind. Edwards Gardens delivers and then some when it comes to a wide array of fantastic photo locations. We honestly could’ve spent hours here but alas, it was time to rejoin everyone for dinner and dancing!

Cozy Digs With Central European Eats

Roy and Laura wanted a place that felt like a warm hug for their reception – and The Prague Restaurant & Cafe was just that. Nestled in Scarborough, this gem serves up delicious Central European dishes that warm the soul. But it’s not just about the food, their beautiful deck offered a perfect spot for guests to mingle under the sun and stars. It wasn’t just a big win for guests, but also a way to keep the nature theme going for the entire day.

The vibe at the reception was all about cozy elegance after Roy and Laura made their entrance to Taylor Swift’s “Daylight”. From the chicken schnitzel and beef burgundy that had everyone wanting seconds to the heartfelt speeches, there wasn’t a dry eye in the room. Every detail at The Prague was a reflection of the bride and groom’s journey together.

And the first dance? Hardly one in the traditional sense as Roy and Laura decided to do it their own way again. In place of a first dance was their music playlist for the night starting with the upbeat Tears For Fears’ “Head Over Heels” while inviting everybody to the dancefloor.

Capturing Moments, Making Memories, Eating Cake

Roy and Laura’s wedding was a day filled with unforgettable snapshots. From the serene beauty of Edwards Gardens to the intimate warmth of The Prague Restaurant, every photo told a story of love, friendship, and fun. Their favorite shots? Those quiet, stolen moments amongst the greenery of the gardens. Here, their fun personalities and love for each other was as palpable as the beauty around them.

Speaking of beauty – their wedding cake was delicious as it was easy on the eyes. They went with a vanilla white buttercream cake with berry filling on one tier and orange flavoured icing on the other. And let’s not forget the DIY décor that spoke volumes of their relationship – a ladder adorned with photos, games, and a Polaroid guest book that provided them with even more captured memories to look back on.

Planning A Day To Remember

As you dive into planning your own big day, remember this wisdom from Roy and Laura. Keep the wedding true to you, be decisive and don’t fight about family while focusing inward. Laura, with her type A personality, actually had a lot of fun planning the wedding. Her main focus was the small details while keeping everything budget friendly. And the most challenging part? The guestlist and seating arrangements. Definitely something you don’t want to leave to the last minute!

Kotsy here, ready to share a tale of love that’ll surely tug at your heartstrings. Today, I bring you the enchanting summer wedding of Ryan and Rebecca – a couple who turned their high school romance into a lifelong commitment, culminating in a beautiful celebration amidst the scenic beauty of Rosetta McClain Gardens and the elegance of Scarboro Golf & Country Club.

High School Sweethearts to Life Partners

Ryan and Rebecca’s journey began in the corridors of high school in 2010. Through the years, their bond grew stronger, blossoming into a love so deep that Rebecca can hardly remember a time when she didn’t love Ryan. Isn’t that the kind of love we all dream about?

Fast forward to their 7th anniversary under the slightly rainy skies of a totally vacant Guildwood Gardens. Amidst their conversation about future family traditions, Ryan got down on one knee and asked Rebecca to marry him. Despite the rain, it was a moment of pure joy and intimacy, perfect in its simplicity.

Choosing the Perfect Venues

When it came to their wedding, finding the right venues was crucial, especially amidst the uncertainties of Covid-19. They wanted places that resonated with their love for the outdoors and beautiful sceneries.

Rosetta McClain Gardens, with its stunning flowers, tranquil waterfall, and charming gazebo was an idyllic setting for their ceremony. Despite a threat of rain, the day turned out beautifully sunny, perfect for their heartfelt vows and photo session that followed. Then it was off to Scarboro Golf & Country Club for more photos and reception!

Imagine this: a grand clubhouse nestled amidst rolling green fairways and mature trees, creating an air of secluded luxury. Its interiors exude a classic charm, with spacious, elegantly appointed rooms perfect for a reception. The large windows bathe the space in natural light, offering views of the tranquil golf course – a photographer’s paradise!

For Ryan and Rebecca, it was seeing how beautifully set up the space was for a wedding they attended previously that sealed the deal. They were particularly thrilled to take pictures across the golf course, capturing moments of love in the breathtaking scenery – something I may have been even more excited about than the bride & groom!

Moments to Remember

Like most weddings, the day was jam packed with unforgettable experiences. Rebecca’s emotional first glimpse of her parents after she was dressed and ready, the loving gazes exchanged at the altar, and the heartfelt speeches from the best man and maid of honour that evoked both tears and laughter. The vows also had Rebecca completely choked up while Ryan lit up when she came down the aisle to the sweet melody of “Can’t Help Falling in Love” by Kina Grannis.

Speaking of memorable moments, choosing a favorite photo was tough, but for Rebecca, it was the one where she’s placing the ring on Ryan’s finger. The raw emotion and love in that moment was so palpable that Rebecca had to look away to stop herself from crying. And for Ryan’s favourite, it was a candid shot on the golf course that was full of laughter. But if you ask them now what was so funny, they wouldn’t have an answer for you.

Delicious Bites & Personal Touches

Ryan & Rebecca’s wedding cake was a delightful vanilla strawberry creation by Seranos Bakery, adorned with blue roses, their favourite colour that was a no brainer to use with white throughout the wedding. Topping the two tiers was a miniature groom trying to run away from his bride, only to be held back by his tie.

The rest of the food, curated by the venue, was a gastronomic delight, with selections like steak, chicken, and salmon that left everyone raving. You can never go wrong with classic staples like these!  

Planning During Covid-19 & Nuggets of Wisdom

Planning a wedding during Covid was certainly no easy feat. Constantly changing restrictions and the challenge of keeping the guest list to 50 were just a few hurdles they overcame. But with the incredible support of Kathleen at Scarboro Golf & Country Club and a focus on what truly mattered, they navigated these challenges gracefully. Now that they’ve been through it all, they have some words of wisdom to couples that are about to plan their own weddings.

Stay true to yourselves: Your wedding should reflect you, not the expectations of others. Make choices that resonate with your story and personalities.

Simplicity is key: Don’t overcomplicate things with excessive décor or details. Focus on what truly matters and let the love shine through.

Embrace the unexpected: Like the rain clearing up just in time, sometimes the best moments are unplanned. Be adaptable and cherish these surprises.

Choose vendors you trust: From the venue to photography, work with people who understand your vision and can bring it to life and make sure to shop around.

Communication is crucial: Wedding planning can be overwhelming, but keeping open lines of communication with your partner, vendors, and helpers can ease the stress substantially.

Having a wedding in 2020 is very different than any other year due to Covid-19 restrictions. These restrictions have led to couples either scaling back their wedding to a micro wedding, postponing until 2021 (or later) or getting creative so a large scale wedding can still proceed. Malaika & Faraz’s wedding fell into the latter category.

Starting the day at The Beauty Concept by Shirley Wu for Malaika’s hair & make-up then travelling to the Bluffers Park in Scarborough for a mini photo session with Faraz. Finally, the bride and groom ended up at the Pearson Convention Centre for Canada’s first drive-thru wedding. Yes, you read that right. A drive-thru wedding. A total of 250 cars made the trip to Malaika & Faraz’s wedding celebration.

When each car arrived, they would be offered a loot bag offering for any children in the group. Each car then proceeded to the edge of the convention centre’s awning where the occupants could exit, walk the red carpet with Malaika & Faraz’s immediate family physically-distanced on each side. At the end of the red carpet they would meet with the couple for a group photo and quick exchange of congratulations.

After re-entering their vehicle, each family would then drive to their next stop to pick up a catered meal to-go and also have the option to get dessert from an ice cream truck before their final departure. For the guests that couldn’t attend, the entire event was live-streamed online, as well as some coverage broadcast on local TV. Being able to able capture such an interesting & fast-paced wedding was quite the thrill! I hope to return to shoot at Pearson Convention Centre again sometime soon. Perhaps a wedding that takes place indoors next time!

I had the pleasure of capturing the wedding ceremony of this sweet couple on a scorching hot summer day in downtown Toronto. A photographer covering weddings requires constant attention and split-second timing, but I’ve never really thought of it as work. Rather, it’s more like a part of and capturing one of the most beautiful and memorable moments in a couple’s life.

Dominic and Jamie decided on “the perfect trifecta” — Berkeley Bicycle Club, for their wedding venue because of its historic charm, contemporary vibe & unique character. Initially starting out as a city & architecture photographer, I am particularly fond of locations like this that feature a perfect touch of intimacy and architecture significance. They never fail to create an excellent backdrop in photographs.

Jamie proposed to Dominic back in December 2017 on the enormous, concrete-covered Plaza de la Constitución in the historic center of Mexico City. Initially meeting in the vibrant West Queen West neighbourhood, they enjoyed offbeat galleries, indie boutiques, and picturesque parks together. Nourishing the love for the artistic yet futuristic lifestyle, they decided on Japan as their honeymoon destination.

As a wedding photographer, I love the energy that blossoms when newlyweds catch each other’s eyes for the first time after being pronounced partners for life. Having such a beautiful venue as a background further increases the beauty of this moment.

Jamie & Dominic looked incredibly happy and fulfilled as all their guests enjoyed the fabulous evening that ensued. They were also filled with joy by their dog Kevin, who had the honour of being the ring bearer during their wedding ceremony. Kevin also happens to be in their favourite photo from the day – the three of them sitting on the main steps of their wedding venue.
