Today I’m taking you on an exclusive tour of one of Toronto’s most enchanting and historic venues that’s celebrating its 110^th birthday this year! So let’s dive in and discover why this spot might be the dream location for your special day – big or small.

What makes Old Mill so special is its marriage of gothic architecture and enchanting gardens for photo shoots. And the rooms here? Incredibly versatile. Whether you’re envisioning a lavish ballroom bash or an intimate celebration, there’s a spot amongst the 16 unique spaces with your name on it.

From 10 people to over 500, Old Mill has you covered! But I’m getting ahead of myself here, let’s take a look where you’ll start your day – the ceremony spaces!

Chapel

Our tour begins in the 16^th century candlelit chapel. With a capacity of 120 people, the chapel features stained glass windows where afternoon bookings are often treated to a beautiful colour cast over the pews.

Ceremonies here have access to an officiant and the ability to book musicians to play any instrument you desire. The antique chandeliers were brought from the UK in the 60s and each of them feature individual candles that are lit for each service.

Secret Garden

If you’d rather tie the knot outside while surrounded in greenery, then the Secret Garden is for you! With a limestone patio, beautiful landscaping and backup plans in place due to inclement weather, it’s got everything you need for the perfect outdoor ceremony up to 80 guests.

Sssh, there’s even a secret path that leads to the Secret Garden!

Guildhall Ballroom

The next part of our tour is reception spaces, starting with the Guildhall Ballroom. This fabulous space is the most sought on the property and you can easily see why.

It’s got a 14ft high coffered ceiling, exquisite chandeliers, floor to ceiling windows with private patio access and enough space to host 180 guests. It’s a real gem!

That’s not all either! Available exclusively to all Guildhall reservations is it’s patio for wedding ceremonies. This multi-level outdoor space showcases more architectural features and less greenery than the Secret Garden. It also overlooks the courtyard/21 West Patio and fountain.

Brule Rooms

Next up we have the versatile Brule Ballrooms with 13ft high Tudor-style ceilings, wooden beams and functioning stone fireplaces.

Brule Room A, B or C are perfect for smaller celebrations of up to 180 guests or booking multiple can accommodate guest lists up to 450. There’s really no wedding too big for Brule.

Westminster

Westminster is our next stop with features including elaborate crown molding, 14ft high ceilings, chandeliers, a fireplace, traditional décor and a capacity of 100 guests.

Humber

You’ll find Tudor-style windows inside the Humber room along with chandeliers, original hardwood floors, a side room perfect for a bar or buffet setup and a 90 guest capacity.

Balmoral

Moving along to the Balmoral room featuring elaborate crown molding, 14ft high ceilings, chandeliers, traditional décor and enough space for 80 guests.

Victoria

Surrounded by floor to ceiling windows, the Victoria room has a great view of the Old Mill Courtyard and Fountains, hardwood flooring, crystal accented chandeliers and space for 55 guests. You’ll feel like you’re in a palace.

Garrett

The Garret room is available as an extension to the Victoria room for cocktail receptions and features Tudor-style ceilings, wooden beams, a fireplace and enough room to host 55 guests.

Garden Room

The next stop is the Garden Room featuring chandeliers, hardwood floors, lots of natural light from floor to ceiling windows and a 54 guest capacity. It also offers direct access to the Secret Garden patio.

Drawing Room

Moving on to the bi-level Drawing Room, we have another fireplace, lots of windows for natural light and seasonal access to its own patio, which can be also be used as a ceremony space. The Drawing Room is perfect for intimate weddings with a guest count of up to 28.

Royal Oak

The Royal Oak room features wainscoting with hardwood floors to match. But it’s most stunning feature has to be the antique dining table that can seat up to 18 people.

Kingsbrook

The Kingsbrook room features a fireplace, traditional chandeliers, a drop down screen, multiple floor to ceilings windows, a capacity of 50 guests and direct access to a private outdoor patio.

Mill

You’ll find another fireplace inside the Mill room, along with natural décor, big windows for lots of natural light from the courtyard and enough space for 60 guests.

York

And the final room on our tour – the York room with its small decorative library, hardwood floors, electric fireplace, drop down screen and a 40 guest capacity.

Dining Room

If that’s not enough options for you, the restaurant has several spaces that can be rented out including The Terrace Room featuring floor to ceiling windows, The Print Room and full dining room. Capacities in these spaces are 50, 60 and 150+.

Not only are the spaces a great vibe, but the restaurant made OpenTable’s 2023 Top 100 Restaurants in Canada and 2024 Top 100 Romantic Restaurants in Canada, including Top 10 in Toronto!

Outdoor Photo Shoot Locations

Now that we’ve seen the ceremony and reception spaces, it’s time to check out my favourite part of Old Mill Toronto – the stunning locations for photo sessions. And what better place to start than right here out front.

This is a great spot for family and wedding party photos. If the weather isn’t ideal, you can dip into the covered section of the drop off drive-way.

There’s also this large cannon on the front lawn, perfect for unique couples shots.      

Also just down the street outside the restaurant you’ll find Old Mill Toronto’s beautiful heritage features mixed with greenery.

Now we’re at my favourite location – the courtyard! Not only is it beautiful with all the surrounding stone buildings, but there’s so many areas that will provide a wide variety of backgrounds for your wedding album.

First up – a big wooden bridge, perfect for groups or couples shots. A large wooden staircase, excellent for couple’s photos and beautiful walkways with greenery, a water fountain and more of Old Mill’s stunning façade. I can’t think of anything better for a photo session.

Moving just outside the courtyard, there’s a lot more to see like this set of stone stairs, a beautiful waterfall, and the entrance to the Old Mill Inn and Spa.

Finally there’s a gritty underpass for silhouette shots and some urban flair as well as a large stone-walled bridge over the Humber River. You really have a bit of everything here.

Indoor Photo Shoot Locations

If you’re having a winter wedding, dealing with inclement weather or just want to keep the photo session going, there’s a lot more inside too.

We’ll start with the grand staircase before moving onto the various picturesque hallways, all with their own unique look.

And then there’s another set of stairs, great for groups or even solo shots.

And how about another set of stairs for good measure?

You could honestly spend an entire day doing a photo session without leaving the property, it’s THAT good!

A Contemporary Space and Historical Vibe

Nestled in the heart of North York in Toronto, Village Loft is not just a venue; it’s a canvas waiting to be painted with any artistic vision. Imagine high ceilings, brick walls, exposed wooden beams, and an abundance of natural light. It’s truly a love at first sight type of venue!

Not only is Village Loft beautiful, it’s versatile too! For couples having an intimate wedding, booking one of their three rooms will accommodate receptions with a capacity of 75 or 100 guests. Or if you’re having a much grander celebration, you can buy out the whole venue for a total of 275 guests.

From The Fix Up To Wedding Morning Rituals

Christina and Andrew’s journey to “I do” started through a serendipitous introduction by a mutual friend. Fast forward past the first dates, shared dreams and sunset proposal outside the gorgeous R.C. Harris Water Treatment Plant, and it was time to plan the big day to start a new chapter in their lives.

The day kicked off with a classic moment of camaraderie for Andrew – a shot of liquor with his closest friends, brother, and father. After some fun poses, group shots and assistance with bow-ties and jackets, it was time to jump into the rest of the day’s big timeline.

Meanwhile, Christina’s enjoyed her own classic moment – a breath-taking entrance down the stairs in her childhood home. Surrounded by all her closest loved ones, the wedding gown reveal was received with overwhelming praise. After capturing her many emotion-filled interactions with family, I knew I was in for a full day of heart-felt candid moments.

First Look & More Family Time

Before the vows could take place, we whisked away to Hunter’s Point Wildlife Park for the first look. Andrew’s reaction to his first sight of Christina was nothing short of wonderful shock before continuing with a private photo session. Here they could share some final moments of serenity and anticipation before the whirlwind about to take place.

Finally, the moment everyone had been waiting for arrived – the ceremony at Village Loft. Imagine a red brick clad space bathed in natural light and packed with your nearest and dearest. After the head-turning entrances, a friend’s voice filled the room with warmth and reverence through a cherished Bible verse. The rest of the ceremony was short and sweet – better to leave more time to all the fun, right?

Speaking of fun, it was time to open the bar and mingle as cocktail hour was here! The mid-summer’s sun provided a nice warm glow to all the guests as drinks were poured and stories exchanged on the loft’s wrap-around terrace. It was a scene of countless warm moments and laughter, proving to be a preview of all the joy still to come.

A Night of Twirls, Toasts, and Traditions

From the grand entrances welcomed by deafening cheers to a first dance that was a flurry of twirls, the vibe of the reception was through the roof from the get-go. After the wall-to-wall ovation died down, it was time for speeches. I’ve honestly never heard a better collection of heartfelt and hilarious stories, captivating the entire room. To everyone including staff working the event, it was crystal clear that Christina and Andrew were absolutely perfect for each other.

And the food – oh, the food! Boiled Cod or Grilled Coulotte Steak, topped off with a Niagara Peach Tart, because who says you need a wedding cake to make a statement? Although, I could never doubt the food selection for a second, as Andrew makes a living as a chef and wouldn’t settle for anything less than exquisite tonight.

Time To Cut A Rug

But the highlight of the night? Macedonian traditions like the Hora/Ora dance, which brought everyone to their feet to dance in a circle while linking arms. Then the Breaking of the Bread ceremony, where Christina emerged victorious after scoring the biggest piece. With that, she won the title of ‘head of the household’ or ‘bread winner’, which seems more appropriate.

All that energy was held high the rest of the night with some of the most enthusiastic dancing I’ve seen! It was a fusion of cultures, a celebration of love, and a testament to the couple’s roots that made this wedding so special. Even after my coverage time finished, I couldn’t help but stay an extra hour to bust some moves on that lit dance floor.

Greetings, champions of charm and chasers of the perfect shot!

Today, I’m excited to take you to Maxwell and Madeline’s wedding, a day filled with love, laughter, and the unique charm of Toronto’s Burroughes Building. This iconic venue, nestled in the heart of the Queen St. West, served as the perfect space for their big day shared with family and friends. Let’s get to it!

Century Old History

Erected in 1907, The Burroughes Building has evolved from the flagship department store for the F.C. Burroughes Furniture Company to one of Toronto’s most desirable event spaces. The charm lies in its character features including restored elevators, wooden floors, exposed brick, and 8 foot windows windows. Together they create the perfect fusion of past and present. Burroughes stands as a testament to Toronto’s turn of the century, offering a unique personality that makes every event rich with history.

Rooftop Romance

The day began on the rooftop patio, where the sprawling downtown skyline offered the perfect urban backdrop. This moment was not just about capturing photos, it was about encapsulating the essence of Maxwell and Madeline against Toronto’s tallest skyscrapers. Urban landscape aside, the intimate moments shared by the couple, parents and wedding party set the tone for the rest of the day.

Down to the 6^th Floor

Imagine tables elegantly dressed in pampas grass, dried marigolds and white roses, creating a rustic atmosphere. The bridesmaids, armed with eucalyptus and baby’s breath bouquets, mirrored the stunning altar with the same features. The fairy tale scene for the faux-ceremony about to take place was set.

As guests started to fill the venue, the air buzzed with warm exchanges and the soft sounds of instant cameras capturing memories for the treasured guest book. As the connections deepened, the anticipation built for a ceremony that promised to be as emotional as it was joyful.

Ceremony & Celebrations

The ceremony, held in the 1910 addition next to a brick wall sporting an original F.C. Burroughes mural, was a blend of modern sentiment and traditional vows. Guided by a close friend, the tears shared by the bride, groom and loved ones made for a very touching and personal display of love.

After the ceremony, the cocktail hour introduced guests to a world of exquisite flavors. From organic salmon sashimi and BBQ pork bao to tomato tarte and smashed burgers, everyone was able to get a sampling of kitchen’s magic before dinner.

Then, as everyone took their seats, heartfelt speeches moved the couple to tears a few more times. It was a evening of fine dining and emotional depth, marking the end of my time with them but just the beginning of their night to remember.

Hey there, love enthusiasts and future married couples!

It’s Kotsy here, your go-to photographer with a penchant for capturing love stories with a dash of humor and heaps of authenticity. Today, I’m thrilled to whisk you away to the heart of Toronto for a peek into Alex and Lindsay’s wedding at Second Floor Events. If you’re searching for a venue that screams “I do” with historic elegance, buckle up because you’re about to be wooed.

A Guy Thing

Our day kicked off at Alex’s house in Etobicoke, where the atmosphere was charged with excitement, and a pint of manly flair. The groomsmen gifts? Beef jerky and an ax neatly tucked into an ammo can – talk about gearing up for a wedding!

Once suited and booted, the brigade made their way to West Deane Park for a photo shoot that was anything but ordinary. Imagine a shot framed to mimic a, well, let’s say a very “natural” moment on the grass. It’s creating fun moments like these that keep me excited about wedding photography year after year.

Nature’s Photo Studio

But let’s not let the guys steal all the limelight. Enter Lindsay, radiant and ready to stop hearts with her first look for Alex on a picturesque bridge. Then we ventured into a lush forestry area with their wedding party for more photos in the thick of wilderness. Sometimes the simplest locations are the most beautiful.

After a quick bride & groom session, it was time for Lindsay and her bridal squad to strike fun poses outside The Carpet Factory. Not only does this Liberty Village landmark offer an array of stunning backdrops; it’s a slice of Toronto’s history. Dating back to 1890, this office complex boasts red brick masonry and wrought-iron details with courtyards that scream elegance and character. You really couldn’t ask for a more beautiful industrial location that is essentially a ghost town on the weekends.

Off to Say I Do’

With the bridal session complete, it was onto another magnificent turn of the century space – Second Floor Events. Originally built for the Toronto Lithographing Company, this venue’s original hardwood floors and 8 foot windows offer a canvas for weddings that leave a vintage impression. Alex and Lindsay’s ceremony was short, sweet, and sprinkled with laughter, heartfelt vows, and a touching poem that had everyone in the room captivated.

As afternoon turned to evening, the ceremony space transformed into a reception haven where speeches and stories had everyone in stitches – especially Lindsay. The highlight? The live band Switchbeat taking the stage, turning the rest of the reception into a concert where every guest knew the lyrics. The parents dance to Rolling Stones “She’s A Rainbow” had me smiling from ear to ear too.

And as if this day couldn’t get any sweeter, our bride and groom are about to hop on a jet to Paris for their honeymoon. Talk about a perfect beginning to their forever after!

Kotsy here, your go-to photographer currently in recovery. Recently, a major life event has inspired me to start blogging about my personal life. So without further adieu, here’s my first broken bone story!

The Accident

A couple weeks ago when I was cycling, a driver opened his door without looking, causing me to collide with it. Being my first time being in an accident that caused significant injury, I was not aware of how adrenaline makes you not feel an injury for the first while. So, in typical male fashion, I downplayed my injury while thinking I could sleep it off. It was only after walking to the street car and wiggling my fingers did I see bones moving in my hand like they hadn’t before.

After visiting to the emergency room at Toronto Western Hospital, I discovered that I had, in fact, broken my first bone. A broken metal carpal bone – digit 3 – the middle finger (my favourite), to be specific. In and out of the ER in less than two hours impressed me greatly, considering what I’ve seen in the news recently about ER wait times being as long as 10 hours.

The Good, The Bad and The Silver Lining

The good news: I was slowing my bike to a stop so I was traveling at a slow speed, minimizing my injuries. Also, it was a clean break on only one bone without any nerve damage. This means I’m expected to have a relatively quick full recovery. 🤞<- left hand

The bad news: It was my dominant hand and a bone attached to a finger I use to operate one of the dials on my camera. Not only can I not pick up a camera, but I would have to learn how to do pretty much everything using my left hand. This was obviously quite an adjustment, but has certainly gotten easier with practice.

The silver lining: After all this practice, I’m much more capable of doing things with my left hand. Maybe I’ll be ambidextrous by the time this is all over? I’m also lucky enough to live in a time that voice-to-text exists. This has made typing on a computer and phone much easier and quicker than doing it with my left index finger.

Big Thanks

I wouldn’t be as capable or comfortable as I am without my partner at my side from the moment the injury happened and through the hospital & clinic visits. Nicci’s assistance, positivity and creativity have gone so far to helping me cope with this temporary set back. And how can I forget her the beautiful art she put on my cast. She’s honestly the best and I’m so lucky to have her in my life! ❤️

And, of course, Toronto Western Hospital, their Hand Program and Dr. Persitz + team have been absolutely amazing throughout everything so far. And on the topic of health care, having most of it for free in this country is a real blessing.

It’s Kotsy, coming at you with a story that’s got a little bit of everything: romance, fall vibes, and one of the coolest backdrops Toronto has to offer. Today, we’re diving into Luke and Hilary’s engagement session at the Evergreen Brick Works. So grab a drink and get cozied up in your favourite sweater because it’s time to enjoy that crisp autumn air in the Don Valley.

Evergreen Brick Works: A Love Story’s Canvas

First up, let’s chat about this dynamite location. Evergreen Brick Works isn’t just any old spot in Toronto; it’s a place where the city’s industrial past and lush greenery collide. Originally a brick quarry, this spot has transformed into an eco-hub that’s all about sustainability and community vibes. It’s the kind of place where you can find art installations one minute and a farmer’s market the next, all nestled in the heart of the Don Valley.

Now you may be wondering why Luke and Hilary landed on this location for their engagement session. Even with a seemingly unlimited options in the city, the Brick Works was a no brainer for them. It’s got that perfect mix of rugged industrial textures and natural beauty. Plus, they’ve got a soft spot for the place, having wandered its paths more than a few times together.

From An Awkward Start to Fun Memories

Imagine starting your photo session feeling a bit out of your element. Like many other couples, that was how Luke and Hilary felt. A tad awkward at first but quickly warming up to the camera, thanks in part to a couple of cold PBRs and a relaxed vibe. Their session wasn’t just about fun poses either; it was about capturing their genuine connection in a place that resonates with their journey together.

Luke and Hilary also wanted their engagement shoot to reflect their personalities: laid-back, fun-loving, and connected to each other and their favorite season. Decked out in cozy flannels and denim – we turned Evergreen Brick Works into their playground, surrounded by the warm hues of autumn and historical preservation done right.

From Online Sparks to Beachside Promises

Meeting online through Plenty of Fish in 2014, Luke and Hilary quickly realized they were a natural fit for each other. Dive bars, mosh pits, weight lifting and tattoos are just some of the many interests they bonded over as their relationship progressed.

Now fast forward past years of concerts and camping to Miami Beach just after New Years 2023. Having already mutually decided they would tie the knot, Luke waited for the right moment with an unusual mix of total confidence and nervousness. Then BAM! Question: popped, whilst they pounded back… coffee!

Reminiscing and Planning

Looking back at the photos from their session, Luke and Hilary are hit will all the fun feels. From their PBR toast to the big laughs as they ran towards to the camera while bumping into each other. Their favorite shot? The candid moments as they walked through the fall-coloured scenery, beers in hand. This is where they felt the most comfortable and themselves.

Now with the engagement session wrapped, all that’s left is to finish planning their wedding! Keeping with the non-traditional vibe, they plan to lean in to the rich history of their epic venue – El Mocambo. I can only begin to imagine all the cool ways they’ll make this wedding uniquely theirs.

This isn’t just a story about a beautiful spot in our city; it’s about John and Carolina’s magical proposal.

How They Got Here

Our stars, John and Carolina, first crossed paths on Bumble. Talk about a modern-day fairy tale, right? Their connection was instant, and their love for each other and being with each other quickly lead to talks about planning a family, so the decision to pop the question was an obvious one!

The Perfect Spot: Snake Island

John wanted an outdoor spot near water (a favourite for Carolina) with a killer view for the big question, and Snake Island checked all the boxes plus provided some privacy to boot. With big adventures being something they both adore – the journey of an Island trip made perfect sense.

Based on her priceless reaction to the proposal, you would’ve never guessed that earlier Carolina and her hawk eyes noticed something off with John’s pants pocket, which couldn’t fully contain the not-so-slim ring box. But let’s be honest, it’s these little hiccups that make the best stories!

In this case – hiding inside a small forest next to the beach. As John and Carolina looked back at their photos, they knew he made the right call. Their favorite shot?
